Intellij github copilot not giving suggestions on comment

I'm using Jetbrains Intellij IDE for a java project. When I write a comment, for example // find all values from the list A which are not null I do not get any suggestions. My OS is Ubuntu.

Intellij version: Intellij IDEA 2023.3.2 Ultimate
Copilot version: 1.4.5.4049
Ubuntu version: 23.10

Flashes up that it's looking for a suggestion, then immediately goes back to Status: Ready.

Hi @mszewi and @AnarchyDave , Thank you for reporting and we're sorry for the issue you're facing.

I'd like to suggest that a change in the prompt might yield better results. Rather than a single-line comment, a multi-line comment might help Copilot prompt for suggestion.

Please note that Copilot makes suggestions that are more helpful by viewing multiple suggestions in a new tab:

• On macOS, press Command+Shift+A, then click Open GitHub Copilot, or press Command+Shift+\ to open the new tab immediately.
• On Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+Enter, then click Open GitHub Copilot.

Sometimes Copilot will suggest further comments, and one needs to start a function to proceed to write the function. In fact, this is how we demonstrate this in our example for writing code from comments.

Still, if Copilot is not suggesting at all, please provide us the logs. Help > Show logs in Finder/Explorer and look for a file called idea.log.

It works well if I start writing code after the comment. Exactly how you demonstrate it in your code writing example. It was just not clear for me that only writing the comment is not enough. I was thinking the code in your example is already produced by copilot.

definitely a bug. If I wanted to write the code, I would just do it myself. This bug still exists. The issue with the tab is even that you have to refresh it manually every single time.
